Narsingha face large (10cm)

In Hindu legend, Shri Narasimha is the 4th avatar of Shri Vishnu (one of the 3 deities in the Hindu Trimurti, fulfilling the role of the Preserver).

Shri Vishnu appeared in this form to battle Hiranyakashipu, the brother of Hiranyaksha, who was killed by Shri Vishnu when he manifested as his third avatar (Varaha).
Hiranyakashipu devised a cunning plan to obtain special permission from Brahma, a protection that stated he could not die on the earth, in space, in fire, in water, could not die during the day or night, neither inside a building nor outside, nor by a man, animal, god, or any living or non-living being. Using this power, he conquers the world, as no one can stop him. Narasimha can kill Hiranyakashipu because he is only half-god, half-man, half-animal, and he kills him on the threshold of a courtyard at twilight, when the demon is on his knees, using his claws to disembowel the Asura.

Narasimha could not exit this battle frenzy and needed to be calmed by another deity. This story takes place during the Satya Yuga (the first of the four ages of Hindu world history, the Age of Truth).

Shri Narasimha in Hindu means "man-lion" (nara = man, simha = lion).
